image: my september calendar for my journal so i may have accidentally signed myself up for 3 read-a-longs, a buddy read, and a book tour all in the same month without considering the fact that: ah yes, i am a grad student, and school is back in session. insanity is about to ensue. if you're new here or haven't been keeping up with me for very long — hello, hi! welcome! i'm a mess. the messiness continues with the fact that i struggle to handle multiple things at a time but still manage to make it work, like a koala in the wind. the difference is that the koala did not ask for the wind to cause more struggle in its life; i, on the other hand, apparently welcome chaos.
enough with waxing poetic and making koala-to-life metaphors. let's get on with my reading plans for this month. the major theme for this month's somewhat planned reads is high fantasy. (she says for the thousandth time) i started grad school and i have little time currently to not think about rocks. i'd love to use that time to be able to embark on an adventure that takes me out of my current situation. i'm also going to be in quarantine for two weeks of the month and won't be able to escape my apartment, so why not escape to a fantastical world? (aka mari continues using reading as a crutch for her mental health, but hey, it works, so i won't knock it) read-a-longs i really enjoyed doing a read-a-long for the wolf of oren-yaro by k.s. villoso for the bitch readathon on twitter. unfortunately, i wasn't strong enough to stay awake for the weekly chats as they happened live, but i really enjoyed the questions that the hosts brought up, the responses i saw from other participants, and sharing my own thoughts as well. i felt this really enhanced my enjoyment of the novel and thus i began keeping an eye out for any read-a-longs in september for books i'm interested in reading. i found three.
buddy reads i have never done a buddy read before. in all fairness, i wasn't really active in the bookish community (outside of consuming content but never talking to its creators) before august, so i took that chance away from myself. but the lovely paula from her book thoughts reached out and invited me to buddy read the poppy war by r.f. kuang in september with another friend lenn. given the hype that the poppy war has gotten lately and the fact that these wonderful human beings wanted to read it with me meant i couldn't say no! i've been super excited for this since the buddy read came to fruition and i can't wait to chat with paula & lenn about my thoughts (because apparently i will have rather emotional ones). other planned reads
... this is not a TBR. repeat after me: THIS. IS. NOT. A. T. B. R. but i do want to get to all of these books in the month of september as i've been excited to read all of these for some time. wish me luck! another fun bookish thing i hope to tackle in the month of september is the goodreadance challenge, which is already bringing me that sense of organization that keeps me from falling apart. here's my current plan of action (subject to change):
i hope you check out the goodreadance challenge and maybe clean up your bookish life a little, too (trust me, it's actually quite fulfilling!). stay tuned for my thoughts and reactions to all of these books (hopefully). as always, feel free to reach out to me on twitter or instagram. i hope you all have a lovely rest of your week :-)
